Pastor caught by NDLEA in drug trafficking operation
The founder and General Overseer of Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly, Lagos, High Priest Nnodu Azuka Kenrick, and a theology student, Udezuka Udoka, were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and skunk concealed in palm oil kegs from Lagos to Dubai.
They were caught along with their freight agent, Oyoyo Mary Obasi, after the NDLEA intercepted 1,430 kilograms of cannabis in a truck and recovered 13 motorcycles in Cross River. They also seized 1.10 kilograms of crystal meth concealed in carton walls heading to London.
The arrests took place on Thursday 9th February, when Oyoyo and Udezuka were caught at the Lagos airport with 283 parcels of skunk weighing 14.90 kilograms and 204 grams of methamphetamine.
High Priest Nnodu was arrested two days later at his church in Ijesha, Lagos. In her statement, Oyoyo implicated High Priest Nnodu and his son, Chisom Obi, as the ones who gave her the consignments for export. She claimed they used threats and made her take an oath of secrecy and sacrifice a chicken in the church while Nnodu prayed for her.
Oyoyo also revealed that Nnodu referred to the drugs as “Ice” and “Bible” in their text message chats. Udezuka stated that he was paid 2 million naira for his role in the smuggling attempt and did it because he needed the money for his education.
