Buba Galadima Strongly Believes Presidential Election Tribunal Cannot Overturn Tinubu’s Victory
In a recent interview on Channels TV Political Paradigm, Buba Galadima, an elder statesman and prominent member of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), declared that the presidential election tribunal does not possess the power to alter the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, in which President Bola Tinubu was declared the winner. Despite acknowledging that the election was not conducted in a free and fair manner, Galadima emphasized that, historically, no court has ever overturned the results of a presidential election since 1979.
Galadima also expressed his party's limited confidence in the judiciary, citing recent events in the country as reasons for their skepticism. He argued that instead of investing approximately 10 to 15 billion naira on what he considered a futile endeavor at the tribunal, the NNPP would rather allocate such funds towards their preparation for the 2027 general elections.
“Why waste our N10bn or 15bn because we heard some people are spending such billions now on social at the tribunal; if we have such money, we would use it to prepare for the 2027 general election,” Galadima asserted during the interview.
Despite facing challenges during the previous election due to the party's late registration, Galadima maintained that the NNPP remains strong. He attributed their underperformance to alleged targeting by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming that their candidates' names and logo were omitted in certain states, thus hindering their progress.
While Galadima's comments shed light on the NNPP's stance and reservations regarding the presidential election tribunal's potential impact on the 2023 election outcome, the political landscape continues to observe developments with keen interest as the country awaits the conclusion of legal proceedings related to the election.
