Coup Post: Allow SSS grill Fani-Kayode, don’t ‘jump’ in, APC tells police
APC instruct Police not to ‘Jump' and Allow SSS Grill Fani-Kayode
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday urged the Police not to ‘jump’ in to any case concerning Femi Fani-Kayode but rather allow the Department of State Security (DSS) to grill him for an alleged coup plot.
Why the Police were Instructed
The party made this statement in response to the emergence of a coup plot story by Fani-Kayode, that implicated some APC leaders.
The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, said in a statement that the police should allow the DSS to grill the former minister, so that the truth behind the claim will come to light.
Fani-Kayode's Side of the Story
Fani-Kayode accused those he termed “non-state actors”, who were “funded, armed and sponsored by certain leaders in the APC” of planning a coup in September.
APC's Side of the Story
In response, the APC spokesman Nabena stated that the party had rejected such claims and Fani-Kayode “should be left to face the full weight of the law for [his] baseless, unfounded and irresponsible allegation”.
He further added that the former minister is, “a very senior citizen, a former minister and a former spokesman [for the] PDP, [who] ought to have understood the implications of making such a serious allegation without concrete evidence.”
APC'S Conclusion
The APC added that it is wrong to charge the party’s topmost leaders as guilty without evidence. The party concluded by asking that the Police allow the DSS to interrogate Fani-Kayode and “put to rest, this wild allegations.”
The APC’s asks has not yet been replied to. We hope the DSS are able to get the true story of Fani-kayode's claims.
The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant State Security Services to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carry out their investigation into the allegations against Chief Femi Fani-Kayode without any interference.
In a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi in Abuja on Friday, the party assured Nigerians that it would not stand in the way of justice as it believes in law and order as stipulated in the nation’s constitution.
The statement further noted that the recent call for Fani-Kayode’s probe by the EFCC had nothing to do with politics or any other irrelevant matter. Abdullahi assured Nigerians that EFCC’s investigation will be conducted with the utmost transparency and in line with international best practices.
He urged the relevant government agencies to act in the best interest of the nation and respect due process rather than intervene or disrupt investigative. Abdullahi concluded that the ruling APC would not jump into the fray and risk a subversion of due process but allow the investigation to take its course for the benefit of all.
The statement concluded by urging all Nigerians to respect the law and abide by it to help create an atmosphere conducive to progress and stability.
